Fire protection from Newcastle for a hot new development in Dubai
Hart Door Systems of Westerhope, Newcastle upon Tyne, won a major export order worth £300,000 from Dubai for 60 industrial doors.
The first part of the order, all of which are being made in Newcastle, is for 50 fire roller shutters, some over seven metres wide and weighing almost one tonne, which were delivered together with a number of Hart’s high-speed, automatic, doors from its Speedor range. The order was placed by the Al-Futtaim Group’s Famco division which has entered a formal agreement with Hart as its preferred industrial door supplier.
The doors are for the first phase of the Dubai Festival City project, a development currently under construction by the Al-Futtaim Group. The 1,600 acres project is on the banks of the Dubai Creek and is the Middle East’s largest privately-funded, mixed use real estate project.
The Waterfront Centre retail and entertainment element, where Hart’s doors will be installed, will comprise some 2.7million sq ft and will be anchored by 10 large space users let to international brands including an IKEA mega store.
Nick Hart, Hart’s project director, says the order was won “against fierce worldwide” competition. “This is the largest number of doors of this type to date to be supplied in a single contract. It follows orders from Egypt and of course across the UK, our traditional market. We are optimistic for similar orders in future.”
Alan Richardson, Hart’s Contracts Manager adds that quality of product, technical knowledge and ability to deliver were the key points to Famco’s decision to use Hart.
